Rainfed vs. Artificial irrigation
Aragón, Spain. (Ongoing project)

Los Monegros (Aragón, Spain) is a region vertebrated by the Alcubierre Sierra.
This topographic condition divides the territory into two opposite landscape segments: the arid southern rainfed zone (enclosed within the Zaragoza province just above the Ebro river) and its northern artifitial irrigation one (Huesca province). While searching new ways in which to harvest water and become more efficient in its performance, the southern arid-scape still keeps its original ecosystem (the last of its type in western Euope). In the meantime, the northern part is dedicated to render thoughout its surface as many types of productive activities as possible, as if the finite nature of its resources was not an issue to take under consideration.
